In Diablo IV, gear is one of the key factors in increasing your character's power. For beginners, choosing and crafting gear can seem complicated. This guide will explain gear classification, salvaging, reforging, enhancing, and enchanting to help you understand the system and craft powerful gear.

    • Gear Classification

Gear is classified by color, ranging from lowest to highest: White, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Gold, and Purple. Only orange and above are key pieces, while lower-tier gear is typically used only early in the game.

Orange Gear: Also known as legendary gear. Once you enter World Tier 3, you'll start seeing Sacred Legendaries (max power around 700). In World Tier 4, Ancestral Legendaries drop with a maximum power of 925.

Purple Gear: Rare Mythic gear with high power and top-tier stats, usually the end-game gear players aim for.

In summary: Focus on gear power (925 max), then the stat rolls.

    • Gear Affixes and Primal Gear

Orange legendary gear is divided into normal and Primal tiers based on the strength of their affixes. Primal affixes are marked with stars, indicating their power, up to a maximum of four stars. Mythic gear can also have Primal affixes, but whether it's better than legendaries depends on your build.

    • Salvaging Gear and Extracting Aspects

For unwanted gear, especially those with lower than 925 power or bad affixes, it's recommended to salvage them at the blacksmith. Salvaging provides materials for crafting and extracts the gear’s Aspect, storing it in the Codex of Power for future use.

For example, if an item has the “Shockwave” aspect, you can extract it, then apply it to another piece of gear.

    • Enchanting: Optimizing Gear Affixes

You can use enchanting to reroll a specific affix on a piece of gear. Simply select the unwanted affix, then enchant it for a random new affix. Keep in mind that enchanted gear can no longer be traded.

    Enchanting Tip:

Always reforge before enchanting to avoid wasting enchanting attempts and materials.

    • Reforging: Adding Gear Affixes

Reforging is a key process for upgrading your gear. It allows you to add new affixes to legendary gear. Mythic gear, however, cannot be reforged.

When reforging, you can choose between defensive or general affixes. Affixes come from affix manuals dropped by enemies. If you haven't unlocked a certain affix, you'll need to farm Helltide or Nightmare Dungeon elites.

    • Enhancing: Boosting Gear Attributes

Once you've added the desired affixes, the next step is enhancing. Enhancing boosts the affix values of a piece of gear, up to level 12, divided into three stages:

    Levels 1-4: Requires blue stones.

    Levels 5-8: Requires yellow stones.

    Levels 9-12: Requires orange stones.

Every 4 levels, one of the affix values is randomly boosted. If unsatisfied, you can reset the enhancements and start over. However, resetting costs a lot of gold and materials, so it's recommended to only enhance rare Mythic gear.

    • Material Farming and Exchange

If you're running low on certain materials, you can exchange them at the Alchemist. 1 orange stone can be traded for 3 yellow stones, and 1 yellow stone can be traded for 3 blue stones. This flexibility ensures you have enough resources to enhance your gear.

    • Important Notes

For new players who have just reached max level, avoid resetting gear too frequently. You’ll be swapping gear often, especially when getting legendaries with Primal affixes. Materials and gold are scarce early on, so save resets and enhancements for higher-quality items.
